Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and to learn more about our fellowship training program. Our busy 30 bed medical/surgical Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit provide ample opportunities for our fellows. We have approximately 1,600 admissions per year and over 400 cardiac surgical cases per year. In addition, we have a very active ECMO program including provision of ECMO support for pediatric cardiac, neonatal respiratory, pediatric and adult respiratory and cardiac failure patients.
As the only children's hospital in the state of Mississippi, we have a diverse patient population with a wide range of patient care experiences. Our curriculum provides comprehensive training in the care of critically ill children, opportunities to grow as a physician scientist, and training in the art of being an educator. You will work in a collaborative team that includes attendings, nurse practitioners, nurses and support staff.
Additionally, fellows work closely with a faculty mentor to develop a basic science or clinical research project to help establish skills in the field of research and discovery. You will have opportunities to participate in administrative and quality improvement activities to foster improvements in systems within the hospital and PICU. There are multiple weekly educational conferences specifically designed for the fellow to optimize ABP subspecialty board preparation. The Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at UMMC is ACGME accredited.
